One of the most enjoyable aspects of staying in Ireland is the Bed and Breakfast establishments that are widely spread throughout the country. These are primarily 4-5 bedroom establishments that are family run, therein lies their wonderful charm. They are run to a very high standard and it allows them to have unique offerings. It allows guests to experience and get to know Irish people, to a degree that would be very challenging in a Hotel.  It adds a unique dimension to a vacation in Ireland to have a local person advise you and show you around the locality, indeed many B&B owners in Ireland, pride themselves on treating their guests as they would their own friends.

Given that these also serve as the homes of the owners (although they have separate rooms), you are treated to the same produce that they have. I have many wonderful memories of going out in the morning with a B&B owner in Cork, and gathering eggs from the hen house for the breakfast. Enjoying their home made cheese as the breakfast was cooked. It really doesn’t get better than that.
